From 30,000 feet somewhere over New Mexico.
As the New Year comes, how do we gracefully complete and move on from one
moment to the next, or to the next day, year, relationship, or job? Mastering change takes courage and an inner conviction to live a joyful life.
With the nearly zero degree weather and my special family holidays fading behind me in Chicago, I approach what’s next for me, teaching in Sedona, AZ. I sit in this back row seat on the plane and move on to what’s next – as all of us have done since we first traveled that long journey from the comfortable yet enclosed womb to this unlimited world outside of our mother’s belly.
Change of any sort can cause minor to major anxiety. Have you ever noticed that change often occurs – then after, we suffer. Or we suffer as we anticipate change. Sometimes the change has already taken place and the degree of suffering we feel is based largely on our longing for what was. This longing or holding onto what used to be is a kind of self-imposed hell we devise for ourselves.
I am not saying change is not challenging, I have lived through my own hellish journeys in my time. What I am saying is that our speed of transition is largely determined by the feelings we feel. More importantly, it is essential to know that feelings can easily be let go of and replaced with a deeper calm and peace, even during these rare times of global and personal change.
Lester Levenson, who created the Sedona Method, predicted these times and heartfully urged us to know who we truly are in order to make it through these days with courage and inner peace. He spoke of who we are beyond our emotional response. He was inviting you and me to let go of holding onto our rollercoaster of emotions and discover the unlimited, capable, peaceful soul that is beneath them ~ in essence, our true nature.

I am out the door to a weekend of frolicking in the sea at the New Jersey Shore with great friends.
I have no doubt it will be a delight and pleasure. But it doesnt have to be. I could choose to worry about things back in my life. Who knows, I could worry about world politics or global warming or things closer to home like my health or money. All are topics that are important to pay attention to (not 100% of the time) and some of which I feel deeply about.
Here’s my point. If you have this weekend to play or even just a few hours off from work this weekend, letting go of saving the world during those precious moments of play is one step closer to saving yourself. And aren’t you an integral part of this world? Thus, you can call it saving the world one by one, starting with yourself.
Here’s to letting go! There is plenty of time to contribute to life in ways we feel moved to do. Taking a break for your health of body and spirit is required as well. You deserve it …

For me, so many relationships have changed because of letting go of needing to defend a position or opinion. Frankly, it is a huge relief. I recommend it! This weekend I am looking forward to leading a training on how to let go of your emotional baggage that you normally assert into all your relationships. However, even more powerful is seeing the roles you have learned to play in the relationships in your life: fixer, caretaker, savior, nice girl, nice boy, etc etc. Much of this is learned behavior and not authentically from your own heart and Self.
This is the forest we will walk through this weekend here in New York City on the Effortless Relationships course. On this two day journey we will find numerous clearings to find out who we truly are beneath the masks we’ve picked up.
And just as importantly is the primary relationship … to your Self.
Experiment right now. Find just one non-supportive judgement you have about yourself. Do it right now. Take a moment now. Pause and now … let it go. It only holds your power and love back. See how you feel when you let self judgement go. This, too, can change how you relate to yourself, and thus, to the world.
